"Most small product businesses don’t fail because of issues with their products, they fail because no-one taught them how to sell online. I’m here to change that, one ecommerce shop at a time."

Ecommerce Growth Specialist, Nicola Smith's Story
Nicola Smith has been working in ecommerce for over 20 years - starting before Shopify, TikTok or even Facebook existed.
She began by running her own successful stationery brand, which grew into an award-winning marketplace for independent sellers. Along the way she saw the same pattern again and again - brilliant products failing online while mediocre products flew off the shelves. Not because they weren’t good enough but because independent brands didn’t know how to present, price or promote and attract traffic and convery customers.
In 2013 Nicola founded A Handcrafted Business to change that.
Drawing on her background in marketing (CIM-trained), professional photography and years of ecommerce experience, Nicola now helps independent brands improve how they attract, convert and keep customers.
Her consultancy and training focus on practical, proven strategies across conversion optimisation, SEO, pricing, email marketing and traffic generation on search, social and beyond.
Nicola’s purpose is simple - to help independent ecommerce brands sell more, more often, and more profitably.
Because when independent businesses succeed they don’t just create sales, they create jobs, support families and strengthen communities.
The name A Handcrafted Business reflects her belief that great businesses don't just happen by accident, they are crafted with care, attention and intention.
