Yesterday the changes to the data protection regulations which are happening next year made headline news everywhere! Did you know they will have implications for you as a conscientious small creative business owner? But there is nothing to panic about as I’ve put together a helpful blog post to explain it all here.

Don’t you love it when research comes out that backs up what you have been saying and teaching for years! I’m always talking about ‘like, know and trust’; and being recognised as an expert/influencer in your craft! And now the A.T. Kearney 2017 Global Future Consumer study predicts this is the future of marketing for the next ten years!
The study data is taken from over 7,000 consumers across all ages in the United States, the UK, France, Germany, Japan, India and China, and forecasts the basic principles shaping tomorrow’s consumer packaged goods and retail industries as trust, influence and personalisation.
The report states that “The ‘mass’ market is over, for all intents and purposes,” said Greg Portell, A.T. Kearney Consumer & Retail Practice leader for the Americas. “Embracing trust, influence and personalization as the new commercial mantra for success will be key for all brands and retailers, global and local, in the future.”
This means the future for handmade is looking good as I don’t know any other business types who can do ‘trust, influence and personalisation’ as well a handmade business!

Have you started thinking about Christmas yet? Facebook have as they have put together a useful guide about how you can use Facebook to make the most of the festive season. Only 19 weeks and a few days till the big day is here, so now is time to start planning!
Facebook have a great planning guide here – I especially love the breakdown of what to do between now and post Christmas. It is geared towards getting you investing in adverts on Facebook, but still all great advice.

Facebook are still heavily focusing on the power of video, reports are that they are working on creating a dedicated video chat device which will make people feel as if they are in the same space.
Facebook will soon be rewarding faster loading mobile websites at the top of news feeds and penalising slow websites! Exactly the same way as Google already does! So time to make sure your website is running as efficiently as possible.
I’ve also heard that Facebook is now featuring Marketplace in the top three shortcuts on your desktop menu, it is no longer just for mobile. Though I haven’t seen this yet.
Facebook have also just announced they are removing ‘accidental clicks’ from ad charging. So if someone clicks on your paid link and bounces off within two seconds or less, Facebook won’t be charging you for it.
Social Media is taking over the world! A new report says that 40% of the global population , that is over 3 billion people use Social media worldwide! And Facebook is the biggest platform! Mind boggling really!!
On Monday YouTube announced a new way to share videos directly on its mobile app. YouTube users can share and chat about the videos using text, emoji, reply with other videos, and invite more friends to the conversation with a maximum of 30 people per group message.
Etsy sellers can now test and preview the sales and coupon tools which are being rolled out on 22nd August to all shoppers. The new features for sellers include, being able to schedule sales, set order minimums, and create coupon codes right from your shop. Etsy will also give you detailed stats about how your sales and coupons all in the new Sales and Coupons dashboard. It looks like Etsy are struggling a little carrying over all old coupons to the new system, but they are busy working on it.
Do you feel like you ‘should’ have a website, but don’t have the time, energy or technical know how to set one up. You don’t need one for selling but just to have an online ‘presence’ Then you will love this latest announcement from Google! ‘Website’ by Google is a free tool that allows small business owners to create a simple website in just a few minutes. They say it’s really easy, and you can create your new website from your computer or your phone! To access the free website tool, you need to set your business up on the ‘Google My Business’ page.
