This weeks big Handmade Business News
Etsy is potentially facing a few more changes soon, let’s hope it includes a return to the handmade values.
Following losses in the first quarter of 2017 Chief executive Chad Dickerson, who was also chairman, has been replaced by former eBay executive Josh Silverman.
If you want to hear Josh Silverman’s plans to make Etsy the “world’s best platform for creative entrepreneurs” (did you notice he says creative not handmade!!) he is taking part in a Q&A session on Thursday May 11th 11-1pm (US ET time) over on the Etsy Community forums.
WordPress – the last update was in March to WordPress 4.7.3.
This was a security release. If you haven’t applied it yet it is recommended you do it immediately. Since then I am seeing many theme and plugin updates. Keep all plugins and themes up to date to avoid vulnerabilities.
Facebook, last week, released their first quarter results.
I won’t bore you with details but they do give a clue about where the Facebook future lies and its mobile. COO Sheryl Sandberg is quoted as saying “Our first priority is helping businesses leverage the power of mobile. More businesses around the world are shifting to marketing on mobile. Over 70 million businesses are now using Facebook Pages around the world on a monthly basis, and more and more of them are becoming advertisers.” Over half of Facebook users only ever use Facebook on a mobile, whenever you create something for your handmade business from an image to a blog post to a brand new website, make sure it works on mobile! It also looks like Mark Zuckerberg is a wannabe TV star as next month Facebook is taking on TV. Source: Business Insider
Instagram – I haven’t had chance to check this out yet but Mashable are reporting that you can now post pics on Instagram without the app!
It looks like it is on mobile only but through the website. Let me know if it works for you.
