Etsy is still in the news as with the announcement of 8% of shares being bought by two private equity firms. This is a big signal that massive shake ups could be coming soon. I can only hope and pray these are good news for handmade sellers, but I won’t hold my breath as quotes from Etsy CEO and chairman don’t fill me with hope.
Josh Silverman, CEO of Etsy, said: “We are now reviewing our strategic and operational plans to ensure Etsy is focused on the most value-enhancing near- and long-term opportunities. We will prudently invest in areas that will deliver the greatest returns. At the same time, we see significant opportunities to scale our marketplace business model and drive efficiencies. In everything we do, we will strive for operational excellence and focused execution. I am encouraged by what I have seen and heard from our employees, sellers, buyers, and shareholders. I’m excited to build on Etsy’s solid foundation while increasing our focus on areas where we can do better. We look forward to providing additional details when our review is completed.”
Fred Wilson, Chair of the Etsy Board, said, “Consistent with its fiduciary duty, the Board will carefully consider all options to enhance shareholder value, following Etsy’s review of its strategic and operational plans. Etsy is a great company and we are confident in the ability of our strong new leadership team to unlock the significant value inherent in the business.”

Facebook, might actually be improving our page organic reach on link posts! Yes, really! They are going to be rewarding ‘good quality’ websites and penalising ‘poor quality’ websites with more or less organic reach accordingly. Facebook identified ‘poor websites’ and using artificial intelligence to understand whether new web pages shared on Facebook have similar characteristics.Time to give your website some love and make sure your audience loves you!
Facebook says: Publishers that do not have the type of low-quality landing page experience referenced may see a small increase in traffic, while publishers who do should see a decline in traffic. This update is one of many signals we use to rank News Feed, so impact will vary by publisher, and Pages should continue posting stories their audiences will like.

I love Vicki’s jewellery. Her stunning, bright and colourful jewellery always makes me smile. Vicki has her own website where you can buy her gorgeous work, though has also recently started exploring the world of Etsy too.
Vicki says: ‘I love to work with glass beads to create gorgeous bracelets and epoxy resin to create beautiful pendants. Both these allow me to create unique pieces of jewellery so that customers can be guaranteed something that isn’t replicated in high street stores.’
